....a healing Christmas....
Well, it worked out pretty well this year. Dec. 25th at 4a I decided to put up a Christmas tree for the first time this century. I even bought Cyndi a stocking, put her name on it in Glitter pen, and stuffed it. The Walgreen's clerk is sure I'm nuts. No, just over grieving......finally.....Cyndi and I actually had dinner with her parents last night. She went to their hotel and talked more in private with them later. She didn't get home until 3a, happy. It is the first she has talked to them in about 7 years also. All in all, not a bad Christmas. Current Mood: content | | Monday, August 21st, 2006 | | 10:36 pm |
...dropping an email and a store....
Just a note: after Sept. I hope to be dropping PeoplePc as a dialup ISP. So, I will be killing my blackbirdcp@peoplepc.com email address. Things now with the Verizon DSL have really straightened out. The gaming store now has internet capable computers again on Cox.net as my new backup. Any email to me should be sent to my new regular email address after the end of Aug.. cornishchoughs4@msn.com ALSO: Due to the idiocy running rampant in Wasington state, eBay has gone up on their rates, again. Anyway, my store there is now closed. All of my listings have been moved to HiBidder.com which as far as I can see is going to be a better service anyway once the word about them gets around. I am also trying out OnlineAuction.com but they have just had a platform change due to rapid growth and haven't shaken out all of the gremlins and bugs yet. Both of these sites have REALLY reasonable rates. Carl Current Mood: optimistic | | Sunday, July 23rd, 2006 | | 1:08 am |
Raymond 'Ram' Russell
Today, I helped bury a very good friend. One who was always polite, kind, and generally will have a long impact on my life. If the response at the funeral was any indication, he will have a lasting impact on many lives. What more could a person ask for...? Ram, we'll miss you.... ... a brain teaser...
Ok, This appeared in a technical journal awhile back, and many folks had a bit of fun with it. I'm going to reask an expanded version of the question here. Larry, you should like this one in particular. There is a jet airplane on a specially built conveyor belt that is the size and length of a runway. The conveyor is controlled by a computer so that what ever motion the plane may have forward, the conveyor will move in the opposite direction at exactly the same speed. The pilot gets inside the plane and tries to make a standard checklist takeoff. 1) Does the plane take off? Yes or No. 2) Why or why not? 3) What part(s) if any of the plane/conveyor would be most likely to be damaged/fail first? 4) Why? I'm interseted in seeing if people have as much fun with this question as the people who discussed the answer the first time did! Please post your answers here as comments! Feel free to pass it on! Has all of retail gone 100% PC all the time...???.
AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!!! What is getting into peoples heads anyway?!?!?! I used to work retail once upon a time. I hope to GOD I was NEVER this bad! Today, I went to Office Depot to buy a replacement ink cartridge for our computer at the hotel. Everything was going fine except for the annoying Christmas music being played from a boom box at the front of the store. During checkout, I mentioned to the cashier that we are coming up to Thanksgiving when she wished me "Happy Holiday". She looked at me a little strange and commented that she isn't allowed to say Happy Thanksgiving because some people find the holiday offensive. Have we really gone this far? Gees, people, relax and enjoy some turkey. If 'turkey day' isn't your thing then at least let those of us who are still believers in the 'American Ideal' have one day a year. Is this too much to ask? I can't have a Christmas tree because people of other religions are going to be offended. I can't have a new years celebration because not all people celebrate new years the same day. I can't have easter because I'll offend 'other' religions. I can't have memorial day because the Japanese get upset. I can't have July 4th because foreign students are angry. I have to work on labor day. We can't have days for different people, we have to have President's Day. Now we have to have Lee,Jackson,King day all rolled together, but don't mention Lee or Jackson in schools. I think I'll snap one year and just get a huge holly topiary done in a cone shape, place a star on top labeled Sirius, and cover it with real candles, American flags, Confederate flags, multiple holy symbols, then drop it in the middle of the Mall in DC and dare anybody to move it. I've about had it. BTW, Happy Thanksgiving! Carl Current Mood: cranky | | Sunday, November 13th, 2005 | | 2:05 am |
Honor Harrington minatures game....
Ok, Its another Saturday night. Just got home from the gaming shop and am decompressing before going to bed. Found out that there is an upcoming Honor Harrington minatures game coming out. COOL! Question, how is ship rolling going to be handled? Now I have to save up for another very happy expense..... Carl Current Mood: tired | | Friday, November 11th, 2005 | | 4:51 pm |
So, now I have a journal...
Ok, so somebody at my friends journal decided to be abusive using anonymous, now I have to get a login name. Well, here it is, and hopefully I will find at least one interesting thing a week to post here about. I've been thinking about this sort of thing for a while. Now I have one. Let's see what happens.... Carl |
